Will They Ever Leave

An abandoned Spanish-style home, still whispering its stories

A family of wood storks huddles in their tree-top nest, their tall bodies and stark faces making them hard to ignore. Their wings, so graceful and striking in flight, fold down to reveal a very different kind of beauty — one that’s raw, rugged, and maybe a little intimidating.

The Story Behind the Canvas

Wood storks are some of the most beautiful birds when they soar through the air, but up close… their featherless heads and piercing eyes can be startling! Perhaps that’s why many artists prefer to capture them mid-flight rather than at rest. For me, though, this unusual family moment was just too interesting to pass up.

Watching them settle into the nest, with their awkward charm and prehistoric faces, I couldn’t help but smile. Sometimes the most interesting subjects aren’t the ones we expect to find beautiful.
